Product FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The practical details about ordering a CITTRA print.

What paper is it printed on?

You can choose between Premium Matte — 170 GSM and Archival Matte — 250 GSM. Both are matte and uncoated. Premium Matte has a smooth, non-reflective finish, while Archival Matte is heavier, acid-free and has a natural off-white tone.

When will my print arrive?

Each print is made after you order. Check the estimated delivery window on the product page for your location.

Can I return a print?

Yes. CITTRA offers 14-day returns. Please check the returns policy for the full conditions and instructions before sending anything back.

Will the print colours match my screen?

We aim to show each print accurately, but colours may vary slightly between screens and the finished print. Paper choice and display settings can also affect how colours appear.

About the print

The story behind this print

France’s sardine-canning industry grew rapidly along the Atlantic coast in the nineteenth century, particularly around Brittany and neighbouring western ports. Canning solved a practical problem for fishing communities: sardines arrive in seasonal shoals and spoil quickly, so sealing them in tins with oil allowed the catch to travel much farther.

Competition between canneries also made the packaging unusually decorative. Bright labels, fish illustrations and oversized type helped individual producers stand out in shops, creating a recognisable graphic language around an everyday food. Vintage sardine tins are therefore interesting for two reasons at once: they belong to a real French fishing and preserving tradition, and they show how ordinary grocery packaging became part of popular visual culture.
